This 4-week class is designed to introduce students to the art of bookbinding and visual storytelling. If you are seeking to learn a new skill, this class will guide you through the process of making a small handmade book and filling it with a sequential narrative of your choice. Each session will combine instruction, hands-on projects, and demonstrations to ensure participants leave with a completed book and a deeper understanding of visual storytelling.
Week 1: Introduction to Bookbinding and Storytelling Concepts
Objectives:
- Understand the basics of bookbinding materials and tools.
- Explore the concept of visual storytelling and sequential art.
- Begin brainstorming ideas for the narrative that will be included in the book.
Week 2: Assembling the Book Structure
Objectives:
- Learn and apply basic bookbinding techniques.
- Begin assembling the book structure, focusing on precision and craftsmanship.
Week 3: Visual Storytelling Techniques
Objectives:
- Develop skills in visual storytelling through layout and composition.
- Begin filling the handmade book with the sequential narrative.
Week 4: Final Touches
Objectives:
- Complete the handmade book with final touches.
- Share and reflect on the completed projects with the class.
Materials Provided:
- Binding thread and needles
- Various types of paper (including cover stock)
- Bookbinding glue
- Awls and bone folders
- Basic art supplies (pencils, pens, watercolors)
Participants Should Bring:
- Any personal art supplies they wish to use for their narrative
- Ideas or inspiration for their book’s content
This curriculum is designed to be flexible, allowing participants of all ages and skill levels to explore their creativity while learning valuable skills in both bookbinding and storytelling.

NEW DAY &TIME
Instructor: Jonathan Horn
Join Fellowship Alum Jonathan Horn as he walks the class through how to use visual language to craft a story within a single image. This class will be focused on traditional mediums such as oil, gouache, watercolor, but digital illustration is encouraged as well. Students will learn how to utilize landscape, facial expressions, color, lighting, and context to convey a story or message of their choosing.
DISCLAIMER: All classes require a minimum of 3 students per class per session unless a higher minimum is required by an individual instructor. Any class that does not meet the 3 person minimum before the start of the new session will be canceled. Calls and emails are made to any enrolled students in classes that have not met registration minimums to ensure student satisfaction.

Instructor: Jenny Kim
A comprehensive art class focused on cultivating skills in the fundamentals of manga character creation and design. Students will be delving into the intricacies of character anatomy/proportions and clothing designs to bring your anime-inspired characters to life.
This class is beginner-friendly, but all levels of ability are welcome.
Work can be done traditionally or digitally, however materials are not included. Students are encouraged to bring a tablet/ laptop if they prefer to do their work digitally, or a drawing pad and pencils/ pens if they prefer to do their work traditionally.

Instructor: James Beihl
In this course students will work on creating graphic novel pages based off a story of their choice using the principles learned in class.
Through completing the assigned tasks students will gain a better understanding of what it takes to be a professional artist working on entertainment design and comics.
The lessons are designed to be fun, and aid and facilitate the acquisition of new skills.
