Saturday, April 5th and
Sunday April 6th, 10AM-4PM
In this 2-day soft pastels workshop, we will learn how to paint the landscape with beautiful dramatic skies and water. We will learn how to paint realistic clouds and create the illusion of depth and atmosphere in the sky, as well as the reflections of the sky in the water.
-The demos of the sunset and early afternoon skies will show how the light and color change in
the landscape depending on the time of day.
-We’ll look at the advantages of working directly on toned papers or using the Wet Underpainting
technique.
- The students can use the demo reference photos (will be provided) in their projects or work from
their own reference.
Lana Ballot has been painting for years and is a master of subtle and luminous colors in pastels. We are so fortunate that she will be sharing her expertise in this workshop.
She is a professional artist and pastel painting instructor. She has been teaching pastel
painting throughout the United States and internationally. She is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America, a member of the IAPS Master Circle and a Signature Member of the American Society of Marine Artists. Her work has been exhibited and has won awards in national juried shows.
The cost for this 2-day/6hr per day workshop is $350 per person. A materials list will be provided. For your convenience, you may register online

Celebrate the return of Spring and May Day with this workshop. Did you know that May Day has its roots in astronomy? Traditionally, it was the halfway point between the spring equinox and the summer solstice! People around the world celebrate “Bringing in the May,” by gathering cuttings of flowering branches of forsythia, magnolia, redbud, lilac, or other flowering cuttings.

Tonal values and edges control are paramount for a successful painting. By using a
monochromatic palette, this workshop will aim to provide a solid foundation in oil painting. This method allows students a simple process that doesn’t overwhelm a beginning painter. In this workshop you will learn the basics of color, how to mix them and use them. Angelo Mariano has been drawing since his childhood and, after receiving a degree with honors in Philosophy at the University of Bologna, he moved to New York in 2000 to pursue a professional career as a visual artist and as a teacher.
Students are asked to bring the following materials: Large plastic palette; palette knife for
mxing colors; flat synthetic brushes #2, #4, #6; and a container to clean brushes. The
Instructor will provide the oil paint, solvent and a 12” x 16” canvas panel.

Frank Joseph Reilly (1906–1967) was an American painter, illustrator, muralist, and teacher. He taught drawing and painting at the Grand Central School of Art, illustration at Pratt Institute and Moore College of Art, and is famously known for his twenty-eight years of instructing at the Art Students League of New York.
Reilly developed a popular method for setting up his oil palette for portraiture and figure painting, focusing on separating color into hue, value and chroma. Learn how to set up your palette via The Frank Reilly method with Bill Graf, Portrait Drawing & Painting instructor here at The Atelier!

Join Angelo for a Sunday afternoon workshop that brings the classic Frankenstein monster back to life just in time for Halloween!
Mariano has been drawing since his childhood and, after receiving a degree with honors in Philosophy at the University of Bologna, he moved to New York in 2000 to pursue a professional career as a visual artist and as a teacher. “Back in the 80's, my tiny hometown in Apulia (South Italy) had only one rundown movie theatre; during the weekdays they had porn and, on the weekend, often some horror flicks. Since I was only 10 years old I had no choice but to pick horror. One Sunday, in the deserted place I saw Evil Dead of Raimi (La casa for us) … Then I went back and saw The Mountain of the
Cannibal God... That time I watched all three shows to get at the last scene with a naked Ursula Andress among funny cannibals; I got home after midnight, got punished by my dad, but... I was hooked! You can check out the numerous testimonials on his Facebook page that display his talent in bringing favorite horror scenes to life and peruse his website http://www.angelomarianoart.com/. All levels welcome! Canvases, brushes and acrylic paints provided.
