Fellowship Program

The Atelier's Fellowship Program

A rigorous apprenticeship program designed for young artists seeking professional level skills, fellowship students will be immersed full-time in the practice and study of drawing and painting.

Fellowship students will spend a year developing their skills through various projects set by instructors including still life pieces, self-portraits, figure painting, and creating master copies. Students in this program will also be expected to volunteer during events at The Atelier and help instructors by acting as teacher’s assistant and by monitoring studios when needed.

Expectations of Students

  • Have a minimum one-year commitment to The Atelier. After completing one year, students may be eligible for a second year under the Fellowship Program at the discretion of staff/instructors.
  • Attend three classes per week.
  • Work on studies, paintings and drawings throughout the year resulting in minimum of five fully executed works of art. Finished works of art encompass: Cast drawing/grisaille, self-portrait painting, still-life painting, figure painting and a master copy (at discretion of instructor).
  • Volunteer four to eight hours per week. This includes, but is not limited to, serving as a teaching assistant and/or classroom monitor.
  • Attend all art history lectures (online), exhibition openings, and open houses held/hosted by The Atelier. We highly encourage Fellowship students to attend Open Figure nights as well.

Fellowship Benefits

  • Receive free tuition for all classes. Fees for paid events, workshops and art materials are not included.
  • Have access to The Atelier’s collection of books in the Fine Arts Reference Library.
  • Enjoy open studio time during which they are expected to work on their Fellowship Program artwork.
  • Access to Fellowship studio space.
