WE'RE HIRING!
FULL-TIME ART SCHOOL & GALLERY DIRECTOR
The Atelier, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, in St. James, Long Island, New York, seeks a visionary leader as Director to oversee a school of art and gallery.
Qualifications:
● Strong organizational and administrative skills with working knowledge in the nonprofit sector.
● Experience in art curricula, curating exhibitions, and event planning
● Strong interpersonal and networking skills
● Background in art/art history preferred
Responsibilities:
● Oversee instructors, staff of five, and volunteers
● Manage budgets, while driving revenue
● Collaborate with The Atelier’s board of trustees
● Attend monthly board meetings/ schedule and lead weekly staff meetings
Expectations:
● Serve as the primary ambassador for The Atelier
● Develop partnerships, attend local community events, and build donors
● Fundraising and grant writing for the art school and gallery
● Provide an overall creative vision for the future of The Atelier
Summary: The Director of The Atelier Art School and Gallery oversees educational programming and exhibition curation, requiring a blend of artistic vision and business acumen. They manage staff, budgets, and community partnerships, while driving revenue and curating exhibitions to build a vibrant, sustainable creative environment.
Compensation/hours: This is a full-time position. Candidates with a wide range of experiences and backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Compensation is commensurate with experience.

The Atelier (formerly The Atelier at Flowerfield) is an art school and gallery located on Long Island in St James, New York. Our mission is to enrich and deepen appreciation for the arts in our community and extending to the greater New York metropolitan area. We are committed to creative expression through the study, practice, and appreciation of art in all its forms. We welcome students of all ages, abilities, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, offering a supportive and nurturing learning environment. Volunteer
Lending a hand is always welcome!
We always have something to do, whether it's helping as a teacher's assistant in a class, setting up exhibitions, or assisting with the library. Join our team of Volunteers and make some new friends along the way!
Figure & Portrait Models
Interested in modeling for us?
The New Atelier is looking for Portrait and Figure models!
Requirements
- All models must be able to withstand sitting for 20-minute segments at a time.
- Long Pose Figure models must be able to withstand long poses (same pose for 3 hours with 5-minute breaks every 20 minutes).
- Models must be available for the entirety of a four-week session.
- You must be 18+ to model.

2026 Atelier Model Policy
All models must be properly vetted before being placed on the Atelier list
- Interview - All models must have an in-person meeting/interview with the Administrative Assistant or the Director.
- ID - All models must provide an ID—License
- Reference - One work reference (email and phone number) to be provided
Key studio rules
- Respect & Privacy - Models are vital; their space must never be violated, and they need privacy to dress/undress.
- No Photography -Taking photos of the model is strictly forbidden.
- No Unwanted Contact/Advances - Physical contact or harassment is prohibited.
- Studio Conduct - No cell phone use, no talking/distractions during poses, no entering while posing.
- Instructor/Monitor Control - Only instructors/monitors give pose directions; students don't interact directly.
- Scheduling - Models must adhere to pose/break time policy (approximately 20-minute pose/ 5-minute break cycle).
- Robes - All figure models must bring a robe to wear at break time.
- No Private Sessions - Students cannot hire models privately.
Instructors
We are always looking for fresh faces here at The Atelier who can bring something interesting to the table! Currently, we are looking for instructors to lead classes around an area of their expertise. We are also always open to artists looking to lead workshops and lectures!
How to Apply
Please email administrator@atelierflowerfield.org and include the following:
- A proposal for the class/workshop/lecture.
- For classes and workshops: Include a lesson plan (how the class will be broken out, any materials required, etc.).
- A resume.
- Link to a portfolio or examples of your work.
Open Studio
The Atelier offers open studio time to both students and non-students, available on Fridays from 1pm-5pm. Open studio time is FREE for Atelier students currently enrolled in classes, and $10/hour for non-students.

The Atelier proudly marks ten years of creativity and growth. Rooted in the traditions of the classical atelier, The Atelier honors time-honored artistic training while embracing the expanding media alongside the needs of today’s creative community.
We preserve the master-apprentice model of individualized instruction, while integrating new media, interdisciplinary approaches, and broader community engagement. In this way, The Atelier blends time-honored mentorship and skill-building with a forward-looking perspective.
