Any class that does not meet the 3 person minimum, 2 business days before the start of the new session will be canceled. This class is ideal for anyone who has ever wanted to try the pastel medium or for more advanced pastel artists. Methods to capture mood, atmospheric perspectives, simultaneous contrast and mark making will be covered. Classes will include a short introduction about pastels and materials, followed by demonstrations of still life or landscape subject that includes doing an underpainting. Individual instruction at your easel.

Students will begin the class with the selection of a scene considering composition and aspect. A detailed discussion regarding paint mixtures and values leads the student into the painting process. If you have always wanted to try watercolor but didn’t know how to start, this class will help you get over your fear of this tricky medium. I will teach you all the foundations, from which materials to use and basic techniques. You will learn how to mix colors, to apply wet into wet washes and apply the techniques so you can paint from a reference photo.

Our open figure class takes place twice a month on alternating Monday evenings. Here you will have the opportunity to expand your observation and life drawing skills, working with a nude model. Poses will range from short to long. This is an uninstructed class, but a monitor is available at every class session. This class is intended for artists 18+, students under 18 will need parental or guardian consent in order to participate.

Oil painting is visual art’s most celebrated medium. To many artists, oil painting can seem complex and daunting. This course aims to demystify oil painting through a variety of time-tested exercises that explore the unique properties of oil paints, applied color theory, and independent painting projects via observation and/or imagination. Various classical and historic painting methods and approaches will be demonstrated.

This class is structured to help the intermediate student to understand the medium of watercolor.  We will be exploring landscaping painting, still life and portrait painting in various styles, spontaneous and rendered. The instructor will demonstrate: masking, brush control techniques, wet into wet and dry brushing techniques.  Composition will be stressed in this class to focus the student on creating dynamic well thought out watercolor paintings!

Teen Masters Series: Fundamentals of Drawing

Target Demographic: Teenage students who have reached their ceilings at

their respective high school art programs and are building their portfolios for specialized art programs.


Admissions into competitive art programs/institutions comes down to the

candidate’s portfolio, and the determining factor for most admissions panels is the quality of the drawings. This afterschool course is tailored to students

(ages 14-18) to cultivate solid drawing skills and techniques while enhancing

their portfolio. Students are guided through a series of weekly challenges that develop their drawing and observational skills. Exercises focus on core drawing fundamentals – form and space, light and shadow, proportion,

perspective, composition, etc.- designed to develop drawing proficiency with

a variety of materials. 


This class is for students between the age of 14-18. Younger students may be considered at the instructor’s discretion.

Drawing is our oldest form of artistic expression. It is the essence of image

making and the bedrock of classical painting. This class teaches students the

basic techniques, materials and concepts essential to representational drawing. Students are guided through a series of weekly challenges that develop their drawing and observational skills. Exercises focus on foundational topics – chiaroscuro, proportion, perspective, composition, etc.- designed to develop the student's drawing proficiency. This class is tailored to beginners as well as seasoned artists who seek a comfortable setting that challenges and elevates their skillset while exploring the boundless

possibilities of drawing.

The class will focus on painting in all mediums: oil, acrylic, graphite & charcoal. The students will have the opportunity to paint Still Life, Landscape,  portrait and cast drawing. From the application of rich impastos to the scraping down with a palette knife, from charcoal studies to color harmonies, this course is designed to welcome the beginner painter, and to engage the advanced painter.

Students may work from photographs or life and will explore different techniques of drawing and painting.

Instructor demos in facial anatomy, perspective and studying master portraits are included in the course. Ultimately, the student will shed their apprehension, gain confidence and build an effective skillset for taking on one of the most complex and beautiful exercises in classical art.

Drawing from the live model is as daunting as it is awe-inspiring, especially to the young art student. However, life drawing proficiency is attainable in the

proper setting. This afterschool course is tailored to students (ages 14-18) who are new to the amazing world of life drawing. You will draw a long pose from a 

live, clothed model and learn time-tested approaches (instructor demos, lessons in artistic anatomy, perspective and master drawings). Ultimately, the student will shed their apprehension, gain confidence and build an effective skillset for taking on one of the most celebrated exercises in classical art.


This class is open to students between the age of 14-18. Younger students

may be considered at the instructor’s discretion. Materials not included.

Learn the steps of creating a successful painting en plein air using pastel or oil. The beginning stages, consisting of preliminary sketches and blocking in, will be discussed and practiced, as will elements further into the painting process: color harmony, value and atmospheric perspective. Instructor demonstrations may be incorporated during class, though emphasis will be on student painting time. A variety of ability levels are welcomed, as long as the materials list is given adequate attention.

In this course students will work on creating graphic novel pages based off a story of their choice using the principles learned in class.

Through completing the assigned tasks students will gain a better understanding of what it takes to be a professional artist working on entertainment design and comics.
