The Atelier at Flowerfield is pleased to announce our 3rd installment of our Youth Program, "Museums on the Go",
sponsored by The John C Dunphy Foundation.
This year, six Long Island Museums will be presenting
fun and interactive workshops
for 6–12-year-olds
followed by art lessons based on that workshop's theme.

Explore dragon myths
from around the world.
Discover how some dragons were inspired by real-life sea creatures and decorate your very own dragon crafts.

This outreach program provides an interactive music presentation and a hands-on introduction to the various musical instrument families.
This program helps inspire an appreciation of music at a very young age while giving Stony Brook students an opportunity to practice teaching & interacting with children.

Build your own "Mad Science Periscope" while learning about optics, reflections & light.
Trick your brain through your eyes and learn the physics behind optical illusions!
Seeing is not always believing...as this fast paced and very entertaining workshop demonstrates.

Presenter: The Suffolk County Farm & Education Center
Llamas, a member of the camelid family, offer a unique glimpse into South American culture and the animal world.
Students will learn more about this gentle, intelligent and extremely useful animal,
like what jobs they have &
what you call a baby llama.
Includes a visit with two llamas.

Pop, pop, pop!
A little chemistry and geometry
and a lot of bubble fun.
Students will learn about surface tension, elasticity, minimal surface structures and why bubble are so colorful.

Working as color technologists,
students begin with a quest to develop the perfect "green" for
the Incredible Hulk, Shrek, or Fiona.
While investigating the conservation of volume and concepts of scale & proportion, students predict, calculate, and measure additions & subtractions of volumes in order to create the perfect batch of color.

Presenter: The Long Island Children's Museum
Discover the stories that quilts told in the days of the Underground Railroad to assist runaway slaves on their journey to freedom. Learn to “read” various quilt codes; then use mathematical patterns and fabric shapes to design a quilt that tells your very own personal story.

Presenter: The New York Marine Rescue Center
Discussions about sea turtle species in New York water and the threats they face – this includes cold stunning, fishery interactions (entanglements, ingestion of marine debris), boating accidents, climate change, and more.
Learn what the rehab process looks like for these sea turtles and when they get released!

Students will have the opportunity to examine and compare a variety of real animal bones, using calipers to measure each bone and create a bar chart they can keep and use to identify animal bones outdoors.

Beginning on Earth, students will travel across the solar system, learning about the planets and other celestial bodies that call the night sky home.

There are many things one needs to know before venturing up into space...like how does one survive? The most common and practical questions will be answered on what life is like in space. Students will discover where to sleep, what kind of food is available, what astronauts wear, and how they go to the bathroom.

Learn about these incredible marine mammals and discover how they inspired the legend of the mermaid!
Explore mermaid myths from around the world and design a colorful seashell necklace or keychain to keep.
